I wrote this poem for my brother Edmund in 1993 when he was admitted to the hospital. I have always found that for me writing helped me deal with the events of life. Over the years I have written many poems and a few songs up until now they have only been for me and my family to enjoy. When you are so far from 'home' and your family you send letters, call when you can, but mostly you just play back those memories of happy days.
Across the years
My thoughts go back
I travel fast
On memory’s track
Recalling scenes
Of childhood joy
Dear friends we knew
Both girl and boy
For parents too
A goodly home
But we grew up
And had to roam
Our Irish Ties
Will always bind
And we return
In memory’s mind
